What is 2FA or two-factor authentication?
2FA or two factor authentication is a method of securing information assets to a higher level of security than the normal user id and password combination. Assets protected by two factor authentication makes it that much harder for hackers to get unauthorised access to assets.
Example is user id and password (first factor or knowledge factor) PLUS biometric identification (second factor or possession factor). Biometric is just an example and it could be even RSA tokens.
2FA can be considered in cases where the data is as sensitive as credit card data. The list of most critical information assets must be first determined to decide on whether it requires SFA (Single Factor Authentication ) or 2FA.
RSA is named after the initials of its co-founders, Ron Rivest, Adi Shamir and Len Adleman.
